The project, designed and executed by APD for the Seville City Hall, has been honoured at the European Best Event Awards (EuBea) with the Silver Elephant in the “Best Public Event in Europe 2016 category”.
“Latidos de Luz”, three innovative audio-visual shows inspired by the world of opera and devised as a tourist and cultural route, stimulated the main streets of the historic city centre last Christmas.
ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño has been recognised at the European Best Event Awards (EuBea) with the Silver Elephant for Best Public Event 2016 for the design and execution of the multimedia shows “Latidos de Luz” (Heartbeats of Light), presented in three iconic spaces in Seville: the façade of the Palace of San Telmo, the Metropol Parasol, commonly known as “The Mushrooms”, and the Alameda de Hércules.
The project ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño developed for the Seville City Hall as the centrepiece of its programme of cultural activities ALUMBRA, was devised as a tourist and cultural route through the city to stimulate the streets of the historic city centre last Christmas. Specifically, between 19 December 2015 and 5 January 2016, the City Hall offered tourists and locals the opportunity to enjoy a unique and attractive cultural offer, several times a day and free of charge.
“Latidos de Luz” offered a reinterpretation of some of the most famous operas that are linked to the city, -coinciding with the bicentenary of The Barber of Seville, by Gioachino Rossini, and the 25th anniversary of the Maestranza Theatre and the Royal Symphonic Orchestra-, using innovative audio-visual, light, stage and interactive resources.
The shows were presented in three iconic public city locations. Firstly, the Metropol Parasol (commonly referred to as “The Mushrooms of Seville”) hosted a 4D 360º immersive multimedia show, inspired by the circus. At the San Telmo Palace, the stage was set for a video mapping show, showcasing images of great volumetric impact. Finally, at the Alameda de Hércules there was an evocative style audio-visual projection inspired by classic scenes from The Barber of Seville on a 10 m2 circular screen, in the manner of a virtual mirror. The project also involved APD designing a free interactive app that contained and disseminated the entire Christmas cultural programme for the city of Seville.
With this prize, the EuBea Awards jury has valued ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño’s free and accessible-to-all cultural engineering project; an initiative that emphasises culture through the use of cutting edge technologies in iconic urban spaces, and implies a commitment to sustainability as the event was “carbon neutral”.
