Last Sunday, the 23rd of November, the Ministry of Heritage and Culture soft launched the Oman National Museum in Muscat, a project whose technical development and execution is being carried out by ACCIONA Producciones y Diseño.

 

The soft opening took place under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tareq al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture, and chairman of the Board of Trustees of the National Museum, together with the director of the museum, Jamal bin Hassan al Mosawi, and various other dignitaries.

From this moment onward begins a period of tests to verify the proper functioning of the systems, equipment and the other infrastructures of the museum, previous to its official opening which is scheduled for the first half of 2015. The project, costing 18 million euros, will include a permanent exhibition of 5,600 square meters distributed in 12 rooms, with more than 4,000 pieces and an innovative audiovisual in ultra high definition. Worth mentioning is that 80% of the objects that compose the exhibition will be shown for the first time and 20% of the rest have been acquired through donations and acquisitions.

The National Museum was designed to transmit the importance of the cultural heritage to the people of Oman and tourists, bestowing moreover a role of making the public awareness of the country’s traditional values.
